Pawloma

Our story

It started with a very good dog.

Before Pawloma, there was Brandy.

Our beloved little Dachshund who spent 16 years being part of our family — including the first couple of years of Paloma's life.

When Brandy passed away from old age, she left a very big hole in our home.

How it happened

Then came Pawloma.

Brandy wasn't just my dog. She was part of Paloma's earliest childhood too.

They had roughly two and a half years together before Brandy passed away at 16, and somehow that little dog left quite an impression.

Paloma still talks about her all the time. If you ask where Brandy is now, she'll happily tell you she's “in space, in heaven with God.”

After losing Brandy, our home felt incredibly empty. I missed having animals around us, but I didn't want to simply rush out and replace her.

Instead, I started thinking about what else that empty space could become.

I wanted Paloma to continue growing up around animals — learning how to care for them, respect them and understand the responsibility that comes with loving them.

I also saw an opportunity to teach her something completely different: business.

How an idea becomes something real. How you look after people. How you build trust and community. How you work hard. And how something small can grow into something much bigger.

So we started welcoming other people's pets into our home.

One became another.
Then another.

Different breeds. Different personalities. A steadily increasing number of four-legged houseguests.

And somewhere amongst all those paws, Pawloma was born.

Brandy's legacy

The OG.

Brandy. Brandylcious. Bran-Bran. B-Money.

One tiny Dachshund. An unreasonable number of nicknames.

She was part of our family for 16 years and part of Paloma's first couple of years too.

Paloma still talks about her all the time. According to her, Brandy is now “in space, in heaven with God” — which feels like a fairly spectacular retirement for a Dachshund.

When Brandy passed away from old age, she left a huge space in our home.

Pawloma grew from that space.

Not because we wanted to replace her — there was only ever one B-Money — but because loving Brandy for 16 years showed us just how much animals bring to a family.

Opening our home to other people's pets gave us animals to love again, gave Paloma the opportunity to continue growing up surrounded by them, and eventually became something much bigger than we ever planned.

Management

Meet the boss.

Pawloma is named after Paloma — our pint-sized boss, animal lover and very enthusiastic quality-control department.

She's growing up alongside the business, learning about animals, responsibility, kindness, community and what it takes to build something of your own.

Her current management style mostly involves cuddles.

All pet-care duties, decisions and supervision sit with Pawloma's adult operator. Paloma is part of the story, not part of the staffing.
